CLASSES
Can I just turn up to a class?
As there are limited spaces here for each class, we take all of our bookings for classes in advance. This can be done easily through our app MMADen Battersea, available to download on the App Store and Google Play Store. You can come and train with us without committing to a membership, we offer pay as you go classes at just £12 per class.
What do the classes consist of?
Each class loosely follows the structure of warm up and stretch, learning the technique, using it in combinations, practice and repetitions, sparring and drills (in the more advanced classes) and finishing off the class with strength, conditioning and stretching.
What do I need to bring to my first class?
All you will need for your first class is sporty clothing and a water bottle, we have equipment available here at the gym for you to borrow if you need it in the class. As you begin to train more regularly, you may want to buy your own equipment. We have a wide range of hand-wraps, gloves, shin-pads, head mouth and groin guards which are all available to purchase in the gym. Just enquire at the front desk at our Battersea Park location about sizes and different equipment available, and one of our team will be happy to walk you through the essentials.
For BJJ – you will be required to wear a Gi in the classes, this is essential to the smooth running of the classes as many of the techniques and movements you will learn involve using the Gi as part of t. If you want to train BJJ but don’t have a Gi, we have 2 ‘no Gi’ classes a week, during which you will learn techniques that a Gi is not necessary for.
For MMA – It is recommended that you purchase and use some form of protective gear for your classes, a mouthguard, groin guard and head gear being the most essential. We have headgear available to borrow in our gym, however you will need to purchase your own mouthguard and groin guard. We do some sparring in classes so it is also recommended that you acquire some MMA gloves (7oz) as we do not have many on site to borrow. We have different options and sizes available to purchase here at MMADen, just enquire with one of the team about your options and they will be happy to walk you through what you will need to train.
For Muay Thai/ K1 – we recommend that you purchase hand-wraps and gloves for classes of every level, and shin-pads and headgear for intermediate classes as they tend to integrate sparring into the classes.
For Boxing – For Boxing it is recommended that you purchase your own hand-wraps, gloves, boxing shoes, and headgear for sparring.
What’s the difference between the Beginners, Intermediate and All Levels classes?
The beginner’s classes here at MMADen are designed for complete beginners and our coaches run through a progressive course class by class, covering all the basics of the martial art you are training. In these classes you will learn and practice all the foundations that you need to progress to the intermediate or more advanced class once you feel ready.
Beginners classes will consist of learning and practicing basic stance, footwork and movements and using these in simple combinations. Intermediate classes focus on using these techniques that you have learnt and organising them into combinations, in these classes you will develop and practice tactics that will be useful to you during combat.
Intermediate and advanced classes apply all previous knowledge of the sport to learn more advanced movements and combinations, and practice how these might be applied during combat.
All levels classes are mainly based around pad and bag work you should have a competent level of fitness if you want to follow along the techniques easily.
Do you have any free trials?
Every Monday 7.30pm we run a free 30minute Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trial which can be booked easily through our app MMADen Battersea, just make a profile and sign up to the free class! Other than this we don’t offer any free classes, though if you are looking to test out the gym without committing to a full membership, you can purchase one of the pay-as-you-go classes at just £12 per class.
Complete beginner to MMA, where should I start?
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) combines a range of disciplines in order to dominate your partner in the cage. The MMADen school predominantly trains the main and most effective arts in MMA… Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, and having a basic or extensive knowledge of some or all of these disciplines is essential in your development as an MMA fighter.
If you are a total beginner to combat sports, we recommend 4-8 weeks cross training Boxing, Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu before starting MMA training. Our beginner MMA classes focus around different takedowns and submissions but before you begin this you should have a basic knowledge of combat sports as this knowledge will be used in teaching the proper techniques.

OTHER
Do I have to sign any forms before training?
Upon signing up to the gym and attending a class we require all clients to sign a Liability Waiver and fill out a PAR-Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire) this is standard across all fitness centres and is required in order to ensure your full health and safety before training with us.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
If you are looking to purchase classes or PT sessions as a gift for a loved one, we do offer this here at MMADen. Just come in to one of the sites and let us know what you wish to buy and we will fill out a gift voucher for you. For purchases of gift vouchers worth over £100 we also provide free handwraps to go along with your gift. Payments are preferably made onsite, however if this is an issue just email in to contact@mmaden.com and one of the team will seek to make other suitable arrangements for you.
Do I have to wear a mask in the gym?
We do require all attendants to the gym to wear a mask when walking around the premises, though it is not essential during classes. If you are presenting any symptoms of coronavirus or general illness you will not be allowed to participate in the classes as we do have instances of close contact and the spreading of infection can happen quickly.
What is the cancellation policy?
In cancelling a class this takes away this space from someone else who might be wanting to train at that time. We know that emergencies happen and circumstances change and we have been mindful of this in the creation of our cancellation policy. However, in order to efficiently run the business and in the interest of the community at the Den we adhere to this policy quite strictly.
The cancellation window for every class or session booked at MMADen is 24 hours. If you cancel your class before this 24- hour window, your account will not be credited and it will show in the system as an early cancel. The 24-hour cancellation window has been put in place in order to allow enough time for other members to decide to train and book on to classes.
If you cancel your booking after the 24-hour window has passed, this will be classed as a late cancel. Late cancels will credit your account if you have paid for the class and will show on your account. This rule is also applicable if you do not show up to your class.
We will allow 3 late cancels/no shows per month for each member, afterwards which will come at an administration charge of £5 per class missed.
In order to make booking fair and sustainable for all of our valued members, we ask that you be more mindful when booking classes and book only with the intention of coming to the class. We urge you to think of this charge not as a punishment for having to cancel, but rather an incentive to prioritise and show commitment to your training.
